Christine Mann Darden

  • What inspired or motivated this woman to achieve her level of greatness?  Explain.

Christine Daren enjoys mathematics and physics. Darden also found the work challenging which she likes.

  • What obstacles did she have to overcome to achieve her goals? Describe.

One obstacle that Christine Darden had to overcome to reach her goals was being an Aferican-American girl in the field she chose since there was not many girls in this field of science and she was the only Aferican-American.

  • What levels of success did she attain?  Describe.

At Allen High School in in Asheville, North Carlina, Darden was considered to be an excellent student. She received a degree in mathematics from Hampton University in 1962. Then Darden also completed a masters degree program in mathematics at Virginia State College. After contuning her education at the George Washigtion University, Washington, DC, in 1983 she was qualified for a doctorate degree in mechanical engineering. She was also the first African-American in her classes. Darden was contracted to work on NASA's Supersonic Transport Research Project and worked in the 1990's as a group leader as NASA's Langley Reasearch Center. A flight, X-15, in 2003 to confirm Darden's theory she had. Also she got several honors from NASA of Outstanding Performance and Achievement.

  • What kind of support did she get (if any) and how did this help her? Describe.

Christine Darden has the support of her family and firends. She has three children to help support her.

  • Why is this woman considered a "role model"?  Explain.

Christine Darden can be considered a "role model for a couple of reasons. One reason she is a role model is she persevered and went into a field that not many girls were in at the time. Not only was not many girls in this field at the time, she was the only Aferican-American. There are two reasons why Christine Darden can be considered a role model.

  • To which characteristics of this role model do you most aspire? Explain.

The characteristic of Christine Darden that most aspired me is that she never gave up her dreams and always reached for her goals. She was the only Aferican-American in her classes and that didn't stop her from doing what she wanted to do. Also with three kids she never gave up working and doing what she loves to do. That is the characteristic of Christine Darden that aspired me the most.
